The Site Veterinary Assessment will establish your farm production baseline and
kill data as it stands. It aims to provide advice to supplement your own flock management
skills, so you can apply your knowledge and judgement to increasing crop potential.
Your vet will also provide analysis of results and any recommendations to your vaccination
policy.
-
The free Site Veterinary Assessments are offered to poultry farmers in the South
West region, as part of the South West Healthy Livestock Initiative (SWHLI). To
be eligible you will need to have a CPH Number and farm in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset,
Somerset, Wiltshire or Gloucestershire and be registered with a participating veterinary
practice - see Question 7
-
Yes, these are offered to you as part of the South West Healthy Livestock Initiative
(SWHLI), funded under the Rural Development Programme for England. Each broiler
farm in the South West region will be offered vet/fieldsman visits to review, analyse
and work on their productivity. In future years, these visits are likely to be provided
at a subsidised cost.
-
There are different initiatives operating to support poultry farmers in other English
regions. To see what is available in your area, visit the
RDPE Land Skills Programme
-
To register, please phone Datapoul on 0844 848 6020 and speak to one of our team
who will glad to help. You will need to complete a registration form confirming
that you are an eligible (see Question 2)
participant in the Datapoul programme. You will also commit to allowing your vet
access to your farm to review data in three years time.
-
By allowing your vet to visit in future years, this will help Datapoul to ascertain
whether an improvement in flock health and farm productivity has been made. By benchmarking
farm production improvements and disease challenges, this information can be collated
and prepared in a report. This allows us to meet the criteria for funding under
the SWHLI Programme (funded under the Rural Development Programme for England).
-
The participating veterinary practices are:
-
Blood samples will be taken for Infectious Bronchitis (IB) and Infectious Bursal
Disease (Gumboro) to help us build up a picture of disease challenges in the region
and helps to raise your awareness of any current disease challenges. These two hidden
diseases can affect crop production and often remain undetected.
-
No, these two samples will be taken by your integrator at kill, or by your vet free
of charge, as long as you are eligible (see Question
2).

The Datapoul Performance Manager (DPM) database is a web-based programme specifically
designed for poultry growers, available for a monthly fee. The DPM is accessible
via the internet using PC, laptop, or PDA and offers a new approach to improving
broiler performance. It aides you in the growing process, highlighting production
figures graphically, raises awareness of potential crop issues and provides benchmarking
and comparisons across the industry.
-
By seeing a visual of your site production you will soon learn how to monitor your
results and reap the benefits. Data is presented in graphical forms and there is
the capability of setting target figures and emailing alerts when the figures are
out of tolerance.
It shows production graphs of; Daily mortality, Live weight against targets, Water
Intake, Temperature/humidity and also includes kill information, EPEF, FCR, rejects
and others. For more information, please visit the
Performance Manager page.
-
The monthly subscription fee is £30 per farm and an additional £10 per month per
farm, should you wish Datapoul staff to enter on the crop closed and kill data.
The Datapoul Performance Manager will allow you to visualize your own site production;
assisting in improvements in husbandry, the ability to compare houses and monitor
your performance against other growers.
There is also an initial one-off subsidised set-up payment for the User License
of £250.
This fee will include set-up and configuration of the application and user training
including the Datapoul Performance Manager User Manual.
-
To subscribe to the Datapoul Performance Manger (DPM), please phone Datapoul on
0844 848 6020 and speak to one of our team. There is a minimum contract period of
12 months. On subscribing you will receive a dedicated training session and a DPM
Broiler User Guide to help you get the most out of the database.
-
The pilot trial ran for a 9 month period from July 2010 to March 2011 with selected
participants to ensure the DPM is suitable for a wide range of sites with various
management systems. Feedback from growers also ensured that the database is easy
to use and delivers growers requirements.
-
All data will be stored on an offsite secure server with full back up systems, for
which you will have a farm specific password.
Farmers will not be able to cross compare results with other feed mills or integrators
other than as a group and the other suppliers of data will not be named. The benchmarking
data will be used by us to inform future vet visits.
-
The Datapoul Performance Manager has been developed to ensure compatibility with
all required record keeping and mandatory requirements, so that it works with the
normal running of your business. The original program is compliant with ACP standards
and has been accepted as a replacement for some paper records. We will be seeking
ACP certification for the database. The system also complies with the EU Broiler
Directive in producing calculating the Cumulative Daily Mortality figures and the
Kill Information Data is compared to the level of conditions which may trigger an
on farm inspection by Animal Health.
-
The DPM system also includes a library which will be populated with: datasheets
on drugs, factsheets on vaccinations, protocols on how to vaccinate and all the
documents you need to hand for an ACP audit.
A communications tool with "notice board" and email alerts sent to farmer groups
is also available, so that when you log on, an alert is sent to you with a message.
In time future developments of the database are likely to include:
- a medical section where you can record all medications given during the crop (there
would also be potential for a diary prompt to alert growers to carry out a treatment
e.g. on day 7 administer Coccidiostat, or text messaging to remind you about routine
vaccination for salmonella).
- A consumables section (which will include costs of everything that is delivered
and utilised on farm e.g. gas costs, shavings, chick paper).
-
Training under the Datapoul programme must be face-to-face with broiler growers,
however can be delivered in many different formats:
- Conferences and seminars
- Formal training courses e.g. Poultry Meat Training Initiative
- Practical Onsite Training e.g. Site Visits or Vaccination Reviews
- Specialist Vet led training events or discussion groups
These will be available at a subsidised cost. Please visit the
Training page of our website.
